Vancouverian and The meteorologists!
On a rainy day, pressure doesn’t just build up in a sky it also builds up on a meteorologists mind as well. How would they tell the people of Vancouver that it is supposed to rain in month of August?
On Canada day, July 1st, 2016, it was a cloudy day. People from all over Vancouver and lower main land gathered under the roof of Vancouver Coal Harbour and waited for the Canada day celebrations all together for several hours. People of all ethnicities and from different countries… some migrated from China, India, Philipnese, Mexico, Japan and all over the world gather around the rain drop sculpture created by a German artist Inges Idee.
Some busy on the phones, some talking and laughing, some could be seen playing cards, some had a blanket to sit on and some used a garbage bag, but everyone was waiting under the sky that was about to make everything vet. Waiting under the open sky for the fire works and were holding Canada’s flag people seemed to be still enjoying.
“Hey the clouds are almost covering the sun” just then someone said.
” Love it. I love rain”. Just then a lady shouted.
“You love rain? Then Vancouver is a perfect place for you” just then a man replied.
” Yes. Rain is beautiful. It washes away all the dust from the trees and makes the dry soil humid” she smiled.
” Have you ever noticed Christy Clark on Global news? She has a very difficult time telling people that it’s about to rain”, a man said.
“Yes. It’s quite sad how meteorologist in Vancouver struggle with the rainy weather report. I remember how we use to wait for rain when growing up in India”, an Indian man adds to the conversation.
A group add to the conversation.
” you remember we use to go drive in front of the women colleges?” Ravi starts to laugh.
” Yeah good old days. Loved watching their bodies when their cotton and very colourful, Punjabi suits get wet in the rain” Shalin laughed.
” what a pervert!” Sonia sitting next to him said.
” What pervert man? Thats the only way you could see whole women body… no one wears bikinis eh? And then it rains and the cloth sticks to the body and even they try to cover it up with their dupatta ? The nice rounded breasts can be measured with bare eyes and even see what color of bra was on” Shalin tries to justify himself.
” you say one more thing Shalin I will pour this whole glass of pop on your clothes and make you wet right now”, Sonia tries to stop Shalin.
Ravi tries to change the topic, ” Shalin you remember once it rained so hard and all the city puddles were filled with water?”
Shalin laughs,” yeah I remember we went running around the city bare feet, but the best part was the epic hot pakoras when we got home back”
“ahh I still cook something hot and turn on my music on a rainy day” Sonia adds to the conversation.
” The hot food, the nice fresh smell of the first rain, kids run around on the streets of the city. I miss all of it, but why is rain considered so depressing here in Vancouver?” Ravi asks.
“I don’t know… I love it when it rains here in Vancouver. My dog doesn’t bother me for a walk, kids doesn’t want to go anywhere. It’s a perfect day for me to get stuck in the house and relax” , Shalin smiles.
” Half of the Vancouver is consist of immigrants and I am sure everyone from Asian countries loves rains. Did you notice people from China use an umbrella on a sunny day?” Sonia says.
” yeah man look around here we all are immigrants from hot countries and love when it rains”, Shalin pats on Ravi’s shoulder.
“Maybe its time to all the meteorologist to know…. its ok if it rain. Because lot of people who live here in Vancouver actually love rain” Ravi smiles.
Just then fire works start up and everyone one gets lost in the loud noises of cheering up for the fire works….
Whooooo hoooo……….
