There were broken dishes everywhere on the floor. He was standing in the corner scared and saw his father breaking the dishes. Shane was just 3 years old. He cried loud and ran to his mother who was standing there while his drunk father Daniel was screaming at the mother, Lindi.

“Mama”, Shain ran to his mother and held her tight from her legs.

Lindy picked up Shane in her arms and walked out of the house.That was the last time Shane saw his parent together, but fighting. Lindy left Daniel and started to live in a family housing provided by the government and was raising Shane all by herself.  It was an apartment with one bedroom, a small kitchen area, broken and old small living room area where Lindi managed to keep a sofa that she picked up for free from the side of the road during the spring clean up. They both always sat on the sofa and ate there dinner and lunches. There was one bedroom and they both shared the bed. Shane heard from the other kids in a daycare about their rooms, but he never understood it. He never had a baby room or a separate room.

“Mom I wish we had a dining table,” Shane who was growing up and is almost 5 years old tells his mother one day.

“If we put a dining table where would my baby play?” Lindi questions shain.

“Can we hang that television on the wall and make some room?” Shain questions back.

Lindi recently got a free television with an internet connection from a telephone company. The television was placed on the floor. She wanted to mount it on the wall, but she didn’t know how to and buying a tv stand would cost money and space. So television sat on the floor.

“We have to wait until mummy gets in a little bit of bigger space. Then  we can have everything perfect. Shain replied, “OK”. Maybe he was too small to understand anything?

One day Lindi came home after picking up Shain from the daycare after her work. They came home and Lindi asks Shain to take a shower. They both freshened up and ate their dinner. Then Lindi and Shain went in the living room and sit on the sofa. Lindi asks Shane to come sit on her lap. Shane comes and sits on her lap. She puts her arms around him and kisses his cheeks.

“I have a surprise for you Shane” Lindi kisses him again.

“What is it, mom?” Shane asks Lindi.

“First kiss me back”, She asks Shane to kiss her back.

Shane kisses her mother back and holds her tight in his tiny arms while he eagerly wants to listen to the surprise.

“On your 6 birthday, mama and you are going to stay in a hotel room for 2 nights” Lindi wants to see the reaction.

“That’s boring mom. Stay in a hotel room?” Shane seems very disappointing.

“Baby do you know how it is like to stay in a hotel room” She ask him?

“No” Shane replies back.

“Then how can you say its boring? I am telling you it will be so much fun. You will love it” Lindi kisses Shane again.

“Ok tell me if it more fun than my school playground,” Shane asks.

“yes,” Lindi replies.

“is it  more fun than going on a beach” chain names all the places they go to, the community park, pool or school playground.

“It’s different and I know you will love it. Now go start packing because we are going tomorrow in the morning” Lindi tells Shain to go get ready for the morning.

Next morning, after 4 hours of drive they reached their destination in the evening. Lindi goes to the front desk of the hotel and checks in her luggage. Shain carried his own bag. They both go in front of the their room after taking an elevator. Shane seemed to be quite surprised to see how a swipe card could open the door. Then they both went inside their room.

“Wow”, Shane had no idea how hotel room looks like. Lindi puts her luggage and gets freshen up. Shane seems to be too excited and starts to look around in the room. Soon he organized the shoes they were wearing and started to put the luggage away in the closet.

“Mom are you done,” Shane asks his mother and then says, “come out of the washroom I wanna show you something”.

“Ok give me a minute.” Lindi quickly washes her face and steps out. Shane holds her finger and takes her to the kitchen.

“Look, mom, we have a kitchen here, and a dining table, there is an iron in the closet and the best part there is one more bed in the sofa” Shane seemed to be way too excited while he shows his mother everything.

“I know sweetheart. I am glad you liked it” She hold him tight and kisses him.

“You want to go in the pool” Lindi questions, Shane.

“There is the pool in here? Yes, I want to go there”, Shane hugs his mother again.

It is Shane and Lindi’s very first vacation in 4 years, first for Shane. Lindi saved some money for a small getaway of two days away from home. It was not expensive, but still a getaway from home. They both got ready and went into the pool. Shane played in the pool who was turning 6 years old next morning. Soon they both got tired. They went back in the room and took the shower. Lindi warmed up some food that she bought from home. She took out two white round plates out of the cabinet that were  in there small room. Then she put the heated food in 2 plates and takes it to the dining table. Shane pours pop in 2 glasses and they both sit on the table and started to eat. After eating they both made a sofa bed and turn the tv on. Tired Shane laid on the sofa bed with his mother. They cuddle and kiss while they watched tv. Shane got up and opened the window. An insect then flys into their room.

“Mom looks we have a visitor in the room” , Shane points towards the insect sitting on the wall.

“Oh man. I don’t want to pay for one more person” , Lindi tries to be funny.

“No mom it’s like a perfect pet. He is sleeping on the wall” Shane says.

“Ok go shut the window so no more come in. One pet is enough. What are you going to name him?” Lindi asks him while Shane gets up and closes the windows, blinds and check up all the locks in the room.

“I am going to name him Josphie” , he says while he climbs on the bed to sleep with his mom.

They both lay in the bed. Shane was tired. He put his arms around his mom.

“Mom we finally got a perfect home. Two beds, one for me one for you, a perfect kitchen and a hanging tv. And the best part we have a pet Josphie” Shane was way too excited, but tired. Soon he fell asleep.

Lindi kisses Shane’s head many times while he is sleeping. She didn’t knew how to capture this beautiful moment with her son in a perfect room and a pet Josphie!
